A Ly Oriental Restaurant is a full-service spot in the heart of Houston’s Bellaire area where Vietnamese and Cantonese cuisine are blended into a family-style dining experience. The restaurant stands out for those looking to share large plates—think Peking duck carved tableside, generous portions of roasted duck noodle soups, and vibrant dishes like shaken beef with macaroni or fried frog legs with garlic butter sauce. This mix of Chinese and Vietnamese influences sets a distinct tone for the menu, which serves both classic favorites like egg drop soup and hearty, less common selections like steamed black chicken soup.

The setting tends toward practical and accommodating rather than flashy, making it a comfortable choice for gatherings—whether a casual dinner with friends or larger groups looking to sample a range of dishes without fuss. Seating is ample, which locals appreciate when coming in with family or friends, especially on busy weekend evenings.

Because many dishes arrive in hearty portions, A Ly works best for sharing and exploring multiple flavors in one meal. It’s common for visitors to come with a group to fully enjoy the variety; ordering less than the number of guests often still results in more than enough food. The staff maintains a steady but low-key service style, so it pays off to be proactive when ordering or requesting extras.

Many regulars return for signature items like the Peking duck or roast duck noodle soups, but lobsters and fried squid also garner praise. A Ly manages to balance traditional tastes with satisfying quantity—all at reasonable prices. The restaurant’s location on Bellaire Boulevard makes it easily accessible for those familiar with Houston’s southwest side, blending well into the local dining scene where both Vietnamese and Cantonese communities overlap.

Visiting during dinner time or weekends is ideal for experiencing the full group-dining energy. The atmosphere feels lively without being overwhelming, and the menu’s mix of familiar and adventurous dishes gives diners a good reason to come back. If you’re looking for a place that reflects the culinary diversity of Houston’s Asian food culture in a straightforward, comfortable setting, A Ly Oriental offers a grounded option worth considering.

This family style restaurant is one of a kind mixing Vietnamese and Cantonese cuisines together. My girl friend and I dined and enjoyed the Peking Duck (market price) and fried squid and veggie. For app, we ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls. The whole encounter cost about $75. They also serve white jasmine rice as a side if you want it. I would definitely recommend going with multiple people to help finish these food. It’s so amazing and the portion sizes are huge! I will be back with my family.

We had wonton noodles roasted duck. Wow! It's better than what we had expected. In 2 yrs, we haven't been back here, thus, same taste, same traditional Chinese soup flavors. The price? Excellent for a big portion! Highly recommended . These pictures are 2 portions

This family-owned restaurant is awesome for both small and large groups. Their group menu has great quality and quantity. We usually order options for a couple of people less than we have, and there's still plenty of food for everyone. Their Peking duck and roasted duck are famous, but the lobster dishes are also our favorites. We ate here often, and we've never been disappointed. Friendly staff, quick service, and great value for lots of tasty food!

All the food are excellent. My husband love the health food steamed black chicken soup. He get it everytime we come. Service is fine. They don't have a lot of waitress and they don't really check up your table.

Came here with family for lunch. Food was mostly delicious except for a few exceptions. Peking duck was the best past. Fresh and moist with crispy skin. The bao was warm and soft. The vegetables were also fresh and refreshing. The salt and pepper squid was really crispy and savory. The squid itself was very good! The lemon pepper sauce was okay. It wasn't too flavorful but it was good. I would have maybe liked a sweet sauce to pair it with. Or something with more flavor. The stir fried noodles were a bit disappointing. It tasted a bit too soft and charred. We ended up packing most of it because it wasn't too great. Overall was a decent experience. Still a pretty nice spot to grab some family style meals.
